DEACON FORMATION: A PROCESS OF INQUIRY, DISCERNMENT AND PRAYER AND OF STUDY THAT INCLUDES THE FOUR DIMENSIONS OF FORMATION: HUMAN, SPIRITUAL, INTELLECTUAL, AND PASTORAL

Post-Ordination Formation

The newly ordained deacon will complete a total of 36 hours each year of post-ordination formation, which shall include the Deacon Summer Convocation and the Fall and Spring Deacon Assemblies.

The remainder of the hours are elective in order to allow the newly ordained deacon to pursue formation which fit the particular needs of his life and ministry.

A three year plan is to be developed with parish, diocesan and personal needs in mind that include the following:

  • Annual Retreat
  • Deacon Summer Convocation
  • Spring and Fall Assemblies
  • Other Formation/Education that includes theological studies, spiritual formation or pastoral formation and skills
