DIOCESE CELEBRATES WHITE MASS TO HONOR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS
October 22, 2010—Toledo, OH—The Diocese of Toledo will host a White Mass on Saturday, October 23 at 4 p.m. at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral to honor those who serve our local community in the health care profession. All health care workers are invited to attend: physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, physician extenders, etc. Bishop Leonard P. Blair will celebrate the Mass. The White Mass is called so because health care workers tradionally wear white coats. White is also a symbol in the Church of hope and comfort to the ill and hospitalized.
The mass is sponsored by the Northwest Ohio Guild of the Catholic Medical Association (NOW Guild). “With the CMA, we found a voice to the community and a resource for Catholic medical professionals and health care workers at a time when it is becoming increasingly challenging to uphold the teachings of the Church in the practice of medicine,” said Jeanne Weisenburger President, Northwest Ohio Guild of the CMA. At the end of Mass, Bishop Blair will offer a blessing over all of the health care professionals. Following the mass, an adult reception will be held featuring guest speaker, Father Earl Fernades, STD. Father Fernades is the Academic Dean at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary and Assistant Professor of Moral Theology. The topic of the reception is: “The Catholic Church and the Response to the Challenge of HIV/AIDS among the Married.”
Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral is located at 2535 Collingwood Blvd, Toledo 43610.
The Diocese of Toledo, established April 15, 1910 encompasses 8222 square miles in a mixture of urban and rural areas that spans 19 counties across Northwest Ohio, serving 321,516 Catholics in 128 parishes.
