DIOCESE TO HOLD PRAYER SERVICE FOR HEALING OF EXPERIENCES AND MEMORIES

February 10, 2010 – Toledo, OH – In honor of its 100th anniversary, the Diocese of Toledo will host a Prayer Service for Healing of Experiences and Memories at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Findlay,  Sunday, February 28 at 4pm. Bishop Leonard P. Blair will preside over the service.

Similar to the service held by Pope John Paul II during the Jubilee Year celebration in 2000, this prayer service asks all to examine their conscience and asks God for  forgiveness for past and present sins of the Universal and local church. “Sometimes the institution has made a decision that has brought hurt or anguish to people,” says Father Charles Singler, director worship for the diocese of Toledo. “This service acknowledges that things have happened that are sinful and we ask for forgiveness,” he added.

According to Singler, Bishop Blair chose readings from the Letter of St. James and the Gospel of Matthew. The prayer service also includes a psalm, penitential litany and hymns. “In addition to those who have had a hurtful experience with the church, the service is for others who maybe witnessed such pain and all members of the church, Father Singler says, because “we are all vessels of God’s grace.”

The Prayer Service for Healing of Experiences and Memories is open to all. St. Michael the Archangel parish is located at 750 Bright Road, Findlay, Ohio. For more information please call the parish office at 419-422-2646.
