OWENS STUDENTS TO VOLUNTEER AT MADONNA HOMES

February 16, 2009 – Toledo, OH –Students from Owens Community College will volunteer their time this weekend at Madonna Homes located at 722 N. Huron Street in Downtown Toledo.

On Friday, February 20th the students will meet at Madonna Homes at 11:30 am to paint the facility’s library. On Saturday the group will meet at 10:00 am and continue their project by putting up shelving in the library and replacing the books.

Since its completed remodel in 2008, Madonna Homes has worked with volunteer groups not only from Owens, but also the University of Toledo, Lourdes College, and St. John’s Jesuit High School to offer services and opportunities for the residents.   

With 196 units, Madonna Homes provides safe and affordable housing to seniors and individuals with disabilities, and the opportunity to live independently, grow personally and develop spiritually. Madonna Homes is owned by MAREDA, Inc, the Toledo Diocese’s low income housing corporation, and managed by Vistula Management Co.

The Diocese of Toledo, established April 15, 1910 encompasses 8222 square miles in a mixture of urban and rural areas that spans 19 counties across Northwest Ohio, serving 306,532 Catholics. The diocese includes Allen, Crawford, Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Hancock, Henry, Huron, Lucas, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Richland, Sandusky, Seneca, Van Wert, Williams, Wood and Wyandot counties.
