INTERIM DIRECTOR NAMED FOR CATHOLIC CHARITIES, DIOCESE OF TOLEDO
May 14, 2009 – Toledo, Ohio – The Diocese of Toledo welcomes William D. Sanford as the interim Director of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Toledo effective May 13, 2009.
As interim Director, Sanford will direct Catholic Charities offices in Toledo, Fostoria, Fremont, Mansfield, Norwalk and Ottawa. Catholic Charities provides parish community services for housing, family emergencies, adult advocacy, adoption, pregnancy support and school attendance initiatives. Additionally, Catholic Charities programs and ministries include family life and marriage, social justice education and advocacy, rural life outreach and education, disaster response and domestic anti-poverty programs.
Sanford joins the diocese after serving for 10 years as President & CEO at COMPASS (Corporation for Recovery Services) in Toledo. Prior to that he served as a manager in the Department of Neighborhoods for the city of Toledo, and also served as the Director of the Catholic Club, Youth Ministry and CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) for the diocese. According to Sanford, “I’m excited about the opportunity to work with the office of Catholic Charities. I’m impressed with the amount of programming Catholic Charities is responsible for in the 19 county area of northwest Ohio, and I look forward to working with those who come to us for assistance through our various programs. “
The Diocese of Toledo, established April 15, 1910 encompasses 8222 square miles in a mixture of urban and rural areas that spans 19 counties across Northwest Ohio, serving 301,000 Catholics. The diocese includes Allen, Crawford, Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Hancock, Henry, Huron, Lucas, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Richland, Sandusky, Seneca, Van Wert, Williams, Wood and Wyandot counties. ###
