Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs
|
Statement of Purpose/Vision
The Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs Commission of the Diocese of Toledo is responsible for stimulating local activities among the people of the diocese. The commission seeks to become aware of what is going on locally, support such activities and encourage further development where needed. Thus commission members do not regard themselves as the exclusive or even primary ecumenical ministers of the diocese but enablers of such ministry.
The Commission's chairperson serves as the ecumenical officer of the diocese. This officer works in conjunction with the assigned members of the diocesan cabinet, as the primary collaborator of the bishop in his pastoral ministry as it touches the general community of Christians and the wider faith community where the local church exists. Thus the ecumenical officer advises the bishop, clergy, religious and laity by informing them of the Church's official position on ecumenical/interreligious issues as well as the Church's involvement in these areas on the national and international level. It is a part-time position; therefore the ecumenical officer must do this in collaboration with the commission and other resource people within and outside the diocese.
