Hello everyone:  I am very grateful for the tremendous response to Bishop Blair’s letter of November 28 asking you to create awareness of House Bill 136 and urge Catholics to voice their support to state legislators.  This proposed legislation expands school choice in the state and was introduced by State Rep. Matt Huffman of Lima.

Last week, Rep. Huffman introduced significant changes to the legislation that you should be aware of.  These changes are:

1.    -Scholarship limited to the amount of state aid per pupil spending by district

2.    -Local district keeps all excess funds

3.    -Number of scholarships limited to 1% of district enrollment

4.    -Income eligibility tied to Medicaid S-CHIP eligibility

5.    -Elimination of  Educational Savings Account provision

Michael Youngblood, Director of Black Ministry for the diocese, passed away last Saturday.  Well know and well liked throughout the whole Catholic community, Mike succumbed to health issues that had plagued him in recent years.  His good nature and kind heart will be missed by all who crossed his path and his funeral will be celebrated back in his Cleveland-area home.  Plans are in the works for a local memorial service and we will let you know what they are once they are finalized.

Request for Prayers

From Lisa Myers, Sacred Heart School, Bethlehem

I am asking for your prayers.  This past Saturday Nick Vogt an alumni of Sacred Heart School (Bethlehem) and West Point stepped on a IED in Afghanistan.  Nick is in critical condition.  His brother and sister attend Sacred Heart School.  Nick and his family are in need of prayers!

We are hosting a Prayer Service tonight, November 14th at 7:00.

God Bless,

Lisa Myers
