Central City Ministry of Toledo (CCMT) was created in the mid-1970s as central city neighborhoods in Toledo were being abandoned for the suburbs, leaving empty seats in the schools. CCMT’s legacy was developed by a group of community leaders who believed all children should be offered the opportunity to a faith-based, value-centered education regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.
Through the years, CCMT experienced periods of significant financial hardship, urban deterioration, loss of parish subsidies, and decline in parish and school enrollment. Central city parishes and schools were consolidated and the main CCMT office was moved from Bancroft St. to the Catholic Center on Spielbusch Ave in 2004. This move enabled CCMT to reduce administrative costs by over half by streamlining administration overhead within the Diocese of Toledo. The consortium offers the schools assistance in fundraising, marketing, human resources, purchasing, grant writing, and accounting.
CCMT now operates as one school with two campuses focused on its primary goals:
- Strengthen the core academic subjects (reading, writing, and math)
- Provide teachers with professional development
- Involve parents in the education of their children
- Keep a CCMT education affordable to families
- Instill Gospel values through the Catholic tradition
