2005 AUDIT FINDS DIOCESE OF TOLEDO
IN COMPLETE COMPLIANCE WITH
REQUIREMENTS OF U.S. BISHOPS’ CHARTER

September 20 – Toledo, Ohio – Based on the analysis of the results of the 2005 self reporting audit of the Diocese of Toledo, The Gavin Group, Inc., an independent audit firm found the Diocese of Toledo to be compliant with all articles of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People (the Charter) as adopted by the Catholic bishops of the United States at their meeting in Dallas in June 2002.
At their Fall General Assembly the members of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops voted to continue a compliance audit process in 2005. Dioceses and eparchies that have fully implemented all aspects of the Charter completed a self-reporting instrument that was submitted to the Gavin Group.

The audit reviewed compliance on the four areas of the Charter: (1) To Promote Healing and Reconciliation (Articles 1- 3); (2) To Guarantee Effective Response to Allegations of Abuse of a Minor (Articles 4 -7); (3) To Ensure Accountability of Procedures; and (4) To Protect the Faithful in the Future (Articles 12-17).

The complete findings of this compliance audit will appear in the 2005 Annual Report on the Implementation of the Charter, a report required by the Charter and prepared by the Office of Child and Youth Protection. This report provides information to the public relative to the results of each diocesan/eparchial audit.
