NEW ASSOCIATE PASTOR FOR SANDUSKY SAINT MARY PARISH NAMED

December 14 2007 – Toledo, Ohio – Bishop Leonard Blair announced that effective December 13, 2007, Reverend David Nuss has been appointed as Associate Pastor at Saint Mary Parish in Sandusky, Ohio.

Father Nuss returns to the parish of his first pastoral assignment where he served from 1993 to 1997. His return to parish ministry follows his July 3 departure from Perrysburg Saint Rose Parish, where he had previously been appointed.

In January 2007 Father Nuss reported to Bishop Blair that he had engaged in a relationship in late 2006 with a woman his age. Father Nuss informed the Bishop that he had ended the relationship out of recognition that it was immoral and totally incompatible with his priestly commitment. Father Nuss expressed directly to the Bishop his deep regret and his earnest desire to live and serve as a priest. He also expressed his deep sorrow for the pain his actions have caused the woman involved, his brother priests and the Catholic people.

During the last six months, Father Nuss took steps at the direction of the Bishop to ensure that he is fully prepared spiritually and in every other way to resume a new assignment.

Prior to his decision to assign Father Nuss to Sandusky, Bishop Blair consulted with Reverend Philip Feltman, Pastor of Saint Mary Parish, who in turn conferred with the lay leadership and staff of the parish and the school, who have indicated their understanding and their willingness to accept Father Nuss and welcome him to their parish.
