Activities and celebrations planned for several area Catholic schools


January 27, 2006 – Catholic schools across the diocese and across the country are celebrating “Catholic Schools: Character. Compassion. Values” during Catholic Schools Week January 29 – February 4.


According to the National Catholic Education Association’ s United States Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools 2004-2005: The Annual Statistical Report on Schools, Enrollment and Staffing, 2,420,590 students are enrolled in 7799 Catholic schools across the country, employing 160,153 full-time professional staff people. 


In the diocese of Toledo, 54,045 students are enrolled in Catholic education including seminaries, colleges and universities, high schools, elementary schools, special schools, religious education (C.C.D.) and pre K-8. The diocese employs 444 full-time academic teachers in the 19 county diocese.
Several schools have planned activities for Catholic Schools Week: 
 

St. Mary Norwalk

Sunday, January 29 – “Celebrating Church and Character” Students will participate in the parish liturgy
Monday, January 30- “Celebrating History and Values” Parents are invited to help their students decorate classroom doors.
Tuesday, January 31 – “Celebrating Community” The day will begin with a school wide Mass and end with a spaghetti dinner hosted by the eighth grade class. 
Wednesday, February 1 – “Celebrating Faith and Compassion” Students will participate in outreach activities and watch a movie about the founding of the Catholic school system in the United States. 
Thursday, February 2 – “Celebrating Uniqueness” 
Friday, February 4 –“Celebrating Each Other” Students from St. Paul will join the St. Mary students for Mass concelebrated with their pastors and then enjoy bingo and trivia together in the afternoon.

Sandusky Central Catholic Sandusky 

Thursday, February 2 – 9:30am Bishop Blair will preside at an all -school Mass
Friday, February 3 – Teacher Appreciation Luncheon – Parents will serve lunch to the teachers
The school is also promoting Catholic Schools week through a number of print and radio ads that feature students, parents, teachers and board members discussing the value of a Catholic education.

St. Peter Huron 

Friday, January 27 – Students will work with the Parent Teacher Organization to set-up the school gym for the annual family-style spaghetti dinner where the students will serve over 300 meals to their families as a thank you for their Catholic education.
Monday, January 30 – “Pajama Day” - Kids will have a popcorn/movie event in afternoon
Tuesday, January 31 - Spirit Night at the Huron Arby's Restaurant
Wednesday, February 1 – “Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast” served by the Student Council
Thursday, February 2 - Area-wide Catholic Schools Mass at St. Mary Central Catholic School in Sandusky

St. Joseph Monroeville

Sunday, January 29 – 10:30am Students will be singing a special song after Communion in appreciation of their families and parishioners who support their school.
Monday, January 30 – Twins Day
Tuesday, January 31 – “Businessman’s Appreciation Breakfast” Local businesses will be invited to a special breakfast to show appreciation for their support of the school.
Wednesday, February 1 – Pajama Day. “State of the School Address” 7pm Members of the Advisory Council, Endowment Board, Annual Fund, and the principal will be in the Social Hall to give a short presentation on the school.
Thursday, February 2 –10:30am All School Mass, liturgy planned by the seventh grade. Afterwards the Honors and Principals Awards for the second quarter will be given out. 
Friday, February 3 –Jeans Day and a blessing of the throats in honor of the feast of St. Blaise. 
Sunday February 5 – “Souper Sunday” Students will help plan the liturgy for a Mass at 10:30am. Following Mass there will be a soup and sandwich dinner in the Social Hall served by the faculty. There will be a prize drawing after the meal and the grand prize will be free tuition for one student for the 2006-2007 school year.

St. Mary Clyde

Sunday, January 29 – There will be an Open House, a book fair and a pancake and sausage breakfast from 9am-noon.  Kindergarten registration will also being on Sunday. 
Monday, January 30 – Students will enjoy am assembly featuring the Reptile Man.
Tuesday, January 31 – Non-Uniform and Wacky Hair Day. Students will also participate in classroom spelling bee competitions
Wednesday, February 1 – 10am Students will perform in a Talent Show in the cafeteria and then enjoy a spaghetti lunch with their parents.
Thursday, February 2 – Students will enjoy a day of bowling at Plaza Lanes
Friday, February 3 – 9:30am Students from St. Mary’s will travel to St. Joseph’s Central Catholic in Fremont for an area wide Mass with Bishop Blair.

Immaculate Conception Port Clinton

Monday, January 30 – Inside Out Day Students and staff may wear their clothes inside out. Students will also have a visit from Ronald McDonald who will talk to them about self-esteem. 
Tuesday, January 31 – Movie and Popcorn Day Students will be allowed to bring a blanket and pillow to school to enjoy a movie and popcorn in the afternoon.
Wednesday, February 1 – Hat Day 
Thursday, February 2 – Spirit Day 
Friday, February 3 – Book Day The entire school will read together in the gym and students are allowed to wear their jeans and slippers to school. 
Sunday, February 5 – Open House 11:00am-12: 30am Interested parents may visit the classrooms and register for the 2006-2007 school year.

Monday, January 30 – “Teacher/Staff Appreciation Day” Parents will provide lunch for all teachers and staff.
Tuesday, January 31 – Free Jean Day for Students
Wednesday, February 1 – “Sundae Day and Coin Race Day” Proceeds from the coin race will go to the missions.
Thursday, February 2 – ‘Grandparents Day” Grandparents are invited to visit the classrooms and attend lunch with the students.
Friday, February 3 – St. Ann’s will join students from Sacred Heart, Saint Joseph Elementary, Saint Mary's, Millersville, Saint Mary's, Clyde and Saint Joseph Central Catholic High School at the High School for an APEX Ministries presentation and Mass.

Immaculate Conception Bellevue

Monday, January 30 – “Character, Compassion, Values in our Faith” Each class will decorate their door on a particular Saint or famous Catholic and list the qualities of that person as to their character, compassion and values.
Tuesday, January 31 – “Character, Compassion, Values in our Students” Blue/Gold Day – Students may wear jeans and ICS shirt/sweatshirt, ball cap or another blue/gold shirt/sweatshirt. Students and faculty will receive an ice cream treat.
Wednesday, February 1 –  “Character, Compassion, Values in our Parish; National School Appreciation Day for Catholic Schools” Kick off Bear-ly Recruitment campaign by making birthday cards and invitations to Open House. 
Friday, February 3 –  “Character, Compassion, Values in our Faculty and Staff”   
All School Liturgy planned by 6th grade. Assembly in the afternoon 12:45: Student Council will announce Cutest Baby Contest winner.  Baby pictures of faculty and staff will be posted throughout the week for the students to vote on. Students will also be collecting items for Fish and Loaves and Pass It On.

St. Boniface Oak Harbor

Monday, January 30 - First grader, Dante Kirsch will be “principal for the day”  and Dwight Damschroeder will give an assembly presentation about his experiences in Iraq.
Tuesday, January 31 - 4th and 5th graders will present their science projects to the school to highlight academic achievement.
Wednesday, February 1 – For a monetary donation students may wear jeans and the money will go to a local charitable organization.
Thursday, February 2 - “Vocation Appreciation Day” Activities will honor parish priests and sisters.
Friday, February 3 – Teachers and volunteers will be honored at the 9:00 AM Children’s Mass and at a luncheon presented by the Home and School Committee of the St. Boniface Support Group. 
 

Sacred Heart Fremont 

Monday, January 30 - Sr. Mary Dean, SND will speak to the students about the mission in Papua New Guinea and Eric Culler, a seminarian, will speak about his vocation
Tuesday, January 31 - 8:10 a.m.-Catholic Schools Week Prayer Service in the narthex of church for the whole school.
Wednesday, February 1 –“Staff Appreciation Day”-dress down day for the staff     Lunch will be provided by the parent organization, PATHS.  Each classroom will prepare a thank you celebration for the teacher with the aid of room moms.
Thursday, February 2 – “Student Appreciation Day”-dress down day for the students      Movie for the school in the gym in the afternoon and a treat provided by Builders Club, a student version of Kiwanis Club.
Friday, February 3 - All Sandusky County Catholic schools will attend an assembly by Apex Ministries and a Catholic Schools Week Mass at St. Joseph Central Catholic High School.
