Diocese Of Toledo Celebrates Catholic Schools Week Across The Diocese Print E-mail



Activities and celebrations planned for several area Catholic schools


January 27, 2006Toledo, OH -Catholic schools across the diocese and across the country are celebrating “Catholic Schools: Character. Compassion. Values” during Catholic Schools Week January 29 – February 4.


According to the National Catholic Education Association’ s United States Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools 2004-2005: The Annual Statistical Report on Schools, Enrollment and Staffing, 2,420,590 students are enrolled in 7799 Catholic schools across the country, employing 160,153 full-time professional staff people. 


In the diocese of Toledo, 54,045 students are enrolled in Catholic education including seminaries, colleges and universities, high schools, elementary schools, special schools, religious education (C.C.D.) and pre K-8. The diocese employs 444 full-time academic teachers in the 19 county diocese.
Several schools have planned activities for Catholic Schools Week: 
 

St. Peter’s Upper Sandusky 

Sunday, January 29 – Open House following the 10:30am Mass. The school will also host a sausage and pancake breakfast to start at 11am. 

Tuesday, January 31 – Students will enjoy a concert by the Toledo Symphony Percussion Trio.
Friday, February 3 – All school bingo party.

St. Mary – Shelby

Students will be writing essays on “Why is Being a Student at St. Mary’s School Special to Me?” and the winners will read their essays to the entire student body.

Monday, January 30 – Hat Day
Tuesday, January 31 – Pajama Day
Wednesday, February 1 – Wacky Wednesday
Thursday, February 2 – Mass Dress-up Day. 5th and 6th graders will lead a recitation of the rosary after mass.
Friday, February 3 – Spirit Day and 5th and 6th grade talent show.  
Throughout the week students will also be collecting Special General Mills Box tops to give the proceed to Catholic schools affected by Hurricane Katrina.
