February 9, 2006 – Toledo, OH – The Catholic Diocese of Toledo announces the 14th annual Jerome E. Schmit Youth Foundation Dinner to take place on Monday, March 13th at the Pinnacle in Maumee, OH. The evening will begin at 6pm with dinner being served at 7pm. The foundation was started by the Catholic War Veterans-Logsdon Walla Post 639 in 1991 to honor Monsignor Jerome Schmit who served as their chaplain for 25 years.

This year’s dinner will feature an address by Toledo native and award winning journalist, Christine Brennan. Ms. Brennan is a USA Today sports columnist, author of the best-selling figure skating book Inside Edge and a television sports analyst. Ms. Brennan can also be heard on ABC News, ESPN, NPR’s News Radio and Fox Sports Radio. Brennan's column in USA Today makes her the most widely read female sports columnist in the nation. Her upcoming sports memoir, Best Seat in the House: A Father, A Daughter, A Journey Through Sports, will be the first father-daughter memoir written by a sports writer. The story is set in Toledo and tells the story of growing up playing and watching sports with her late father, Jim Brennan.

The annual dinner serves as a fundraising event for the CYO Athletic Program, Catholic Club, and Youth, Young Adult and Campus Ministry. Proceeds from the dinner will also provide one scholarship for each of the metro Toledo Catholic High Schools. Last year the dinner provided $75,000 to the services and scholarships.  Over $300,000 has been disbursed over the past five years to the above youth agencies and scholarships.

Tickets to the March 13th dinner are $50 each and a table of ten can be purchased for $500.  For more information and to purchase tickets, contact the CYO office at 419-244-6711, ext. 611
