Question: Isn't Stewardship just another name for development or fundraising?
Answer: The simple and most direct answer to this is no. Stewardship in it's truest sense is about far more than raising money. Stewardhip is first and foremost about living life as a disciple of Jesus. It is a way of life predicated on daily conversion, gratitude, and generosity of spirit. Question: How is Stewardship different from tithing? Answer: In the Catholic notion of Stewardship there is a great deal of difference between tithing and stewardship. Many Protestant denominations are familiar with the concept of stewardship of treasure as being tithing -the giving of one tenth of your income to the church. Our Catholic understanding of steewardship of treasure is giving to the church until you feel good about what you have given. In other words, let Jesus'example, your conscience and your economic reality determine the amount. |
