DIOCESE OF TOLEDO TEACHERS AWARDED GRANTS FOR ENERGY EDUCATION PLANS June 11, 2007- Toledo, OH- Six Diocese of Toledo teachers were awarded a total of $50,000 in grants on May 21 by the BP A+ for Energy Program in response to their innovative plans for teaching about energy conservation and education. The following teachers were awarded from the district: • Mary Posadny from Regina Coeli Elementary, Toledo for Cool Fuel Road Trip- $10,000 • Chris Nelms from Lial Catholic School, Whitehouse for Solar Energy in NW Ohio- $10,000 • Sue Grod from All Saints Catholic School, Rossford for Energy Efficient Instrument- $5,000 • Andrea Taylor from Notre Dame Academy, Toledo for Ethanol as a Thematic Unit in Chemistry- $5,000 • Kathleen Wilkens from Central Catholic High School, Toledo for Energizing Students Towards Alternative Energies- $10,000 • Jacqueline Kane from St. Ursula Academy, Toledo for Wind Energy- $10,000 The A+ for Energy Program is awarded to any pre-K through 12 teacher currently teaching in public or private schools, who wish to implement creative energy programs in their classrooms. These programs are meant to educate students about energy and its relation to the world around us. A total of 27 teachers in the Greater Toledo area were named as grant winners. In addition to the grants received, these teachers will also be given recognition for their accomplishments by local media outlets, local and state school administration as well as local and state government officials. Teachers will be invited to a three day all-expense paid Energy Education Training Conference. An A+ for Energy Award Ceremony will be held to honor those recipients, where they will be given a plaque and banner to display at their schools. Also, these teachers will be given an additional $500 worth of energy education materials. The A+ for Energy Awards Ceremony will be held on June 27th at the Glass Pavilion at the Toledo Museum of Art.
