DIOCESE OF TOLEDO MARKETING EFFORTS AND CATHOLIC CHRONICLE RECEIVE AWARDS

June 6, 2007 – Toledo, Ohio – In recognition for outstanding achievements in journalism and diocesan communications, the Catholic Chronicle and the Diocese of Toledo Communications office received award recognition for their work at the annual Catholic Media Convention in Brooklyn, New York on May 25th.

The diocesan Communications office won three Certificate of Merit awards at the Catholic Communications Campaign Proclaim Awards Ceremony. Their work was recognized in the category of Television Paid Advertisements for Visit a Catholic Church Nearby campaign, in the category of Newspaper for the Catholic Chronicle’s special insert on Bishop Donnelly’s retirement, and in the Computer/ Internet category for the toledodiocese.org website.

For 26 years, the Catholic Communication Campaign has recognized the work of diocesan communicators in the areas of broadcast, print, video and Internet with the Proclaim Awards.

The Catholic Chronicle also received two awards at the Catholic Press Association Awards held the same day.  In the category of Best Feature Photo for “Woman at Carey Pilgrimage”  staff reporter Laurie Stevens received Honorable Mention, and Angela Kessler, Editor, and Elizabeth Dangrow, Production Manager, were also awarded Honorable Mention for Best New Media Kit.  

Richard R. Gaillardetz, professor of Catholic studies at the University of Toledo, won second place in the History book category for The Church in the Making.  Co-authors Father James J. Bacik, pastor of Corpus Christi University Parish in Toledo and Kevin E. Anderson, won third place in the Liturgy book category for A Light unto My Path.

The mission of the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada is to build and strengthen the value and worth of the Catholic press by facilitating the professional, economic and spiritual growth of their members.

The Diocese of Toledo, established April 15, 1910 encompasses 8222 square miles in a mixture of urban and rural areas that spans 19 counties across Northwest Ohio, serving 306,532 Catholics. The diocese includes Allen, Crawford, Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Hancock, Henry, Huron, Lucas, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Richland, Sandusky, Seneca, Van Wert, Williams, Wood and Wyandot counties.
