BISHOP BLAIR AND MAYOR FINKBEINER TO PARTICIPATE IN INAUGURATION OF RECONSTRUCTION OF MADONNA HOMES

December 1, 2006 – Toledo, OH – Most Reverend Leonard P. Blair, Bishop of Toledo, and Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner will attend an inauguration of the reconstruction of Madonna Homes at 722 Huron Street on Tuesday, December 5 at 1pm.

For several years the Diocese of Toledo, through its low income housing corporation MAREDA, Inc. has been working on a plan to renovate the 196 unit low income housing project for the elderly and disabled. The residents of Madonna Homes will introduce Bishop Blair who will say a prayer and recite a blessing over both the reconstruction project and the residents. The residents will also introduce the Mayor whose commitment to the project helped gain the approval from the Housing and Urban Development Office (HUD).

The renovations began the week of November 18th and are expected to take two years to complete. To meet the needs of the residents, the renovations will take place in ten phases so that none of the residents have to be relocated to other homes during the project.
