ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH ANNOUNCES THE PURCHASE OF LAND FOR NEW PARISH CAMPUS

28 October 2006 – Maumee, OH: Saint Joseph Catholic Church today announced that the Diocese of Toledo has purchased a 57 acre parcel of land in Monclova Township, at a cost of $15,619 per acre from Stitt Road Investors, LLC.  The land is located on the north side of Stitt Road, between Keener and Waterville-Monclova Roads.  Some of this property will be used for the new parish campus of Saint Joseph Catholic Church.

Before the parish can build on the land, plans must be presented to the Monclova Township Zoning Commission and to the Toledo-Lucas County Plan Commission, before returning to Monclova and the township trustees for final approval.

After hearing from the people of this region of the diocese, The Most Reverend Leonard Paul Blair, Bishop of the Diocese of Toledo, consulted with Saint Joseph’s pastor, Reverend Frank Murd, and authorized him to begin the process of re-locating the parish campus to an area more centrally located within the parish boundaries.

Reverend Murd formed the Futures Task Force Committee in April of 2005 to provide counsel and guidance on the project.  Since that time the committee has been working to determine a suitable location, prepare a total project development plan and examine potential funding options.

The committee interviewed various companies and hired project partners. SSOE, Inc. of Toledo is the project’s architect and Bostleman Corporation of Holland, Ohio will serve as construction manager for the new campus. Since the parish intends to also maintain a presence at its current campus after the new campus is completed, The Lathrop Company of Maumee will be the construction manager for the refurbishment of the current campus. Guidance in Giving, Inc., a Catholic campaign development organization, will assist the parish in funding development.

MEDIA NOTE: Rev. Frank Murd, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will be available for interviews at the parish office from Noon to 1:30pm, Saturday, October 28. Please call the parish office at 419-893-4848. He will make an announcement concerning the land to the parish at 5:00 p.m. Mass on this date. This Mass is open to the media, assuming the solemnity of the service is respected.
