While catechetical needs and priorities vary from diocese to diocese, the Toledo Diocesan Catechetical Office performs the following specific functions among others:
· Keeps the diocesan Church mindful of its mission to evangelize · Integrates catechesis within the schools and parishes with the diocese’s total plan for Catholic education and prepares parish catechetical personnel to do the same · Develops a diocesan curriculum guide based on the General Directory for Catechesis, the National Directory for Catechesis, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. (K-8 Religion Course of Study for Schools; High School Religion Course of Study; K-8 Religion Course of Study for Parishes) · Provides guidelines for the organization of lifelong parish catechesis, of the baptismal catechumenate, and of other programs of sacramental preparation. (Diocesan Policies for Sacramental Preparation) · Provides assistance in the evaluation of parish catechetical programs, using instruments that measure cognitive, affective, and behavioral objectives (“Faith Fundamental Kits”; Catechetical Leader Evaluation Instrument for use by Pastors) · Provides access to catechetical resources, including textbooks and instructional aids that have been found in the conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church by the Ad Hoc Committee to Oversee the use of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. These are located in the our Media Resource Library · Develops processes for the recruitment, approval, orientation, placement, ongoing formation, evaluation, and retention of parish catechetical leaders · Assists parishes in the selection, initial formation, ongoing formation, and retention of catechists. · Keeps catechetical personnel informed concerning important church documents and recommendations that pertain to catechesis (The CDC,NDC, Compendium, and Adult Catechism have been/will be provided through our office)
