August 9, 2006 – Toledo, OH – The newest Catholic church in the diocese of Toledo will celebrate its one-year anniversary as a parish on Sunday, August 20th. Blessed John XXIII in Perrysburg will observe its anniversary with a special liturgy in the Commons area of Perrysburg High School, 13385 Roachton Road, at 9:30 a.m.

Founded by Bishop Leonard P. Blair on July 1, 2005, Blessed John XXIII Parish celebrated its first mass on Sunday August 21, 2005 and has grown to 750 members registered with the church. Since its opening, the church has added a Saturday evening mass to its weekend liturgy schedule and has plans to begin an additional Sunday mass time this fall to meet the needs of the growing parish. Reverend Herb Weber, Pastor, noted the involvement of its parishioners as a reason for the steady growth of the parish. Spiritual formation programs such as the family focused “Generations of Faith” have an almost 40% involvement by families who attend the church.

Father Weber sees the anniversary as a time to come together in thanksgiving for the blessings of the past year and to pray for continued fidelity to God’s plan in the years to come. “God has been good to us and many people feel this parish is the vehicle they were looking for in their own faith journey.”
